Yoga for Children and Teenagers

I am a qualified primary school teacher, a children's and teens yoga teacher and a fully trained mindfulness for children teacher (MISP).  I care deeply about children and young people's mental health and believe that yoga and mindfulness can provide children with a toolbox of strategies to help them build resilience and cope in everyday life.

When teaching yoga to children and young people, I bring a fun, educational and imaginative touch to my classes which I have acquired through many years of teaching and working with children.

It is my passion to guide children and young people and inspire them to live happy, healthy lives by providing them with tools they can use for a lifetime of awareness, wellbeing and growth.

I want to help shape our future generation to become strong, happy and healthy individuals. I believe this can be achieved by teaching children and teenagers a variety of skills through the power of yoga and mindfulness.

Classes & private lessons:

I offer yoga tuition on a private or small group basis. I also teach yoga clubs in schools.

What skills do children gain from yoga lessons?

  • The experience of yoga based movement and relaxation.

  • Children will develop strength and balance, improve their coordination and enhance their memory whilst having fun.

  • They will develop body and breath awareness by understanding that how we move and breathe affects how we feel, just as how we feel affects how we move and breathe.

  • By connecting their mind, body and breath, children will grow in self confidence and have a positive attitude towards mental health.

  • Children will learn how to switch off by having the opportunity to enjoy the experience of being quiet and still.

How do children learn yoga?

Children learn yoga in playful and creative ways, in a safe environment, through music and games. Yoga for children is fun and engaging, allowing children to go on an adventure into an imaginary world, whilst creating different poses along the way.

Yoga has made me believe in myself more because I can now do poses which I didn’t think I’d ever be able to do. It also makes me feel calm or energised depending on the lesson.

Why should teenagers learn yoga?

  • Yoga can benefit teenagers greatly in everyday life by helping to improve the quality of their sleep, calm their nerves for tests and improve their sports performance.

  • They will learn ways to manage their emotions, as well as how to cope when dealing with stress by learning a variety of sequences to shift their energy and notice how and why it changes.

  • The classes accommodate growth and development through body and breath awareness.

  • Social media and screen time has a profound effect on many young people and yoga can help teenagers to find balance in their lives and come away feeling strong and grounded, ready to face the challenges that lie ahead.
